Study: Dispersants Less Helpful in Gulf Oil Spill Cleanup Than Predicted

(AP)Dispersants sprayed on the 2010 BP oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico may not have helped breakdown the crude as predicted, according to a new study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. “The dispersants did a great job in that they got the oil off the surface,” Samantha Joye, a marine scientist at the University of Georgia, said to the AP. “What you see is the dispersants didn’t ramp up biodegradation.” Read original story
